Grammar for the Workplace

Who should attend?

This course has been designed for anyone who lacks confidence in their ability to write correct English.  This course is not suitable for those who wish to learn English as a foreign language. The grammar aspects of written English can sometimes give cause for concern.  This one day workshop has been designed to clarify some of the basics.  If you are not sure about how to use punctuation, or where to put an apostrophe, this day is for you.  This is a highly participative workshop.  The focus of the day will be on the basics, rather than a technical and detailed grammar lecture.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
State the uses of the parts of speech;
Dispel some of the myths that surround grammar;
Use punctuation marks appropriately;
Construct sentences correctly;
Feel more confident in your written work.

Course Content:

1. The Parts of Speech
  Understanding nouns, verbs, pronouns and conjunctions;
  The subject and object pronoun;
  Tense.
2. Sentence construction
  Linking ideas together;
  The active and the passive voice;
  Subject and verb agreement.
3. Punctuation
  Apostrophes: the possessive form; abbreviations and contractions;
  Using commas correctly;
  The semi-colon and colon.
